Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
He really needs to let go about Bolton!

With West Ham occupying fifth place in the Premier League, it would not be a surprise if Sam Allardyce had greeted the accomplishment with a string of superlatives. Not so. Instead, the Hammers’ boss described his current squad as “the second best” he’s ever managed.
“The first one was the last three years at Bolton,” he said with a smile. “That was littered with outstanding world-class talent. Djorkaeff, Hierro, Okocha, Anelka, Campo.”

This thread really is about the poster and not BFS.

Why be surprised that he has produced a Daily Nail type piece of work. Take something a man has said, without it context, and then produce two lines of text to prejudice the reader ahead of reading on.

I think After8 was possibly posting in a journalistic fashion....

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
So why disagree with him, he's basically saying not to compare a new squad that's barely been together and is about to be weakened and face tougher tests to one he had together for a much longer period which recorded regular top 10 finishes?

Didn't he go on to say our current squad had the potential to be better than that Bolton squad? Or has that not been reported...

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
So a squad that's been playing together just over 4 months, hasn't hit a really bad period of form to show it's character from also has a busy Xmas period to come. Then a chunk of it will fuck off in the new year to the ACN and one of it's newbies hasn't played in European winter conditions, is better than a squad that is down on record as a regular top 8 PL outfit because football has moved on so much since we had the likes of Ashton and Yossi.

Ooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaayyyyyyy.

Like you, I'm losing the will to live. It was Norwich Hammer who suggested it, but it was a LONG time ago this morning.

I'm grassing him up because the cunt put 4 yellow smileys in his post.

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
Anyway, to his original oint - I actually disagree with him; I think this squad is far better than the Bolton one, but as much as anything that's to do with the game having moved on, it being more of a squad game, there being a massive amount of potential improvement rather than players at the end of their careers, and because back in those days it was very much an elite top4, now there's 6 or 7 who are spending big and trying to join the party.

But, I agree with those who've said its a sensible thing to say to try and manage expectations a little bit. Must admit, I'd seen this interview and thought nothing of it til I saw this thread...

No idea, just saw people talking about it so quoted the interview with him after the Liverpool game...

Rather than question his intelligence, I would say people are adding deux et deux together and coming up with Allardyce is a big fat cunt.

Who said Allardyce didn't rate him?

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
So we don't have any evidence even from what Sakho has said that Allardyce didn't rate him. Just that Sakho thinks that he might have been having unspecified doubts about the deal.

Fair dos.

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
Rather than question Sakho's intelligence, I'd say it's likely he knows a little more about Sullivan's plans than we do.

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
Allardyce did want him, as confirmed by Sakho's agent, Mark McKay, to Brucies Star Prize who knows him.

We arranged a deal for Sakho but then tried to change the deal to a loan with a view to a permanent move, which Metz then threatened to complain to UEFA, before we went back in for him.

This goes to disprove the bollocks that Allardyce has no say on transfers, as the deal wouldn't have been changed.

stewie griffin 9:18 Mon Dec 1
Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
I'm not saying anything, people were discussing where the Sakho stuff comes from, I'm saying where it came from.

'I have always wanted to play in England and when West Ham came in for me in the summer, I thought that was it,' said Sakho. 'But then the deal began to fall through as I think the coach was having doubts and I was resigned to returning to France.
'Fortunately for me, Mr Sullivan stepped in and said he would be signing me and on a permanent deal. It was the chance I needed.
.
'I had heard QPR didn't want me so I wanted to prove I could do it. West Ham gave me the chance and now the coach Mr Allardyce believes in me too. I'm enjoying it and scoring goals against Liverpool and Manchester United shows I can play at this level. I'm just glad Mr Sullivan put his trust in me.'

Sven Roeder 9:18 Mon Dec 1
Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
Sam wanted him on loan presumably because he wanted another player as well.
As Sullivan signs his pay cheques & appoints or sacks the manager I think Sahko was perfectly sensible to come on that basis.

Re: Sam declares West Ham 2nd best to Bolton
We all have a similar dilemma to Sam in a way.

He is pleased we're doing well, and he wants to believe that it's 100% down to him.

We are pleased we're doing well, and we want to believe that it's 100% NOT to do with him.

I do anyway... but then I guess I have an agenda (I go with what has already been said i.e. that we were due for "more of exactly the same" if Sulli hadn't stepped in).

Although when we sent back we still tried to take on loan didn't we?
